Wild coffee is a Florida native shrub that adds versatility and diversity to our rich landscape. It’s leaves are evergreen, with a shiny, dark green coloration. During the spring and summer seasons, the branch tips blossom with clusters of small, white flowers. In the summer and fall seasons, the plant produces a red fruit. These fruits, while not containing caffeine, look very similar to a true coffee bean. That is because while they are different species, the wild coffee plant is in the same family (Rubiacaea) as true coffee, Coffea spp. Both the flowers and the berries of the plant attract Florida birds and other wildlife.
