Arboretum Accreditation

A healthy and flourishing tree canopy is vital to the quality of life on Amelia Island. Arboretum accreditation recognizes those property owners who are preserving and regenerating our historic maritime forest.

If you are up to the challenge, Keep Nassau Beautiful staff and volunteers can help guide qualified properties through the process of becoming a Level I Arboretum accredited through the international Morton Register of Arboreta (ArbNet).

As an early adopter, you will be counted among the first accredited arboreta in Nassau County. Level I accreditation involves a survey of your trees and woody plants (25 unique woody species or cultivars are required); an arboretum plan; an educational element; and the designation of an arboretum steering committee that will manage your ‘living collections.’

Keep Nassau Beautiful offers its full support throughout the application process. We can help:

  • complete your plant survey,
  • develop a simple development plan for your arboretum,
  • serve as your arboretum committee,
  • fill out the ArbNet application, and answer any questions you may have.

A public education element is part of Level I accreditation requirements. An example might be an Arbor Day ceremony, an educational event held for the public or for a small student group, or participation in a tour day. Events may be limited to a capacity of your choice.

Rest assured that accreditation places no obligations or restrictions on your horticultural decisions—the management of your landscape and trees remains fully in your hands.

Accreditation is a wonderful way to celebrate the horticultural collections in your care and receive recognition for the hard work involved in caring for a special landscape. We hope you will join us!
