Prunus erotina, commonly called black cherry, wild black cherry, rum cherry, or mountain black cherry, is a deciduous tree or shrub in Rosaceae. Despite being called a black cherry, it is not closely related to commonly cultivated cherries such as sweet, sour, and Japanese flowering cherries.

The Black Cherry tree is a medium-sized tree that can grow to 79 feet tall. Its leaves can grow 5 inches long and are ovate-lanceolate in shape with finely toothed margins. Fall leaf colors are yellow to red. The flowers are small and white with 5 petals. These flowers give rise to reddish-black “berries” (drupes) fed on by birds.
