Cercis canadensis, commonly known as the eastern redbud, is a deciduous perennial large shrub or small tree that grows mesic hardwood hammocks. It is native to North America, from southern Michigan to central Mexico. This is the state tree of Oklahoma.

The eastern redbud can grow up to 30 feet tall and generally has short, often twisting trunks with spreading branches. The bark is nearly black and smooth and spotted with lighter lenticels. The crown can be covered in deep pink blooms, typically in March​​. The flowers are pollinated by long-tongued bees such as blueberry bees and carpenter bees.
