Baccharis halimifolia, commonly known as the Groundsel Tree or, in north Florida, natively known as the saltbush, is a woody shrub that blooms in the fall and is found in the coastal uplands and disturbed areas. It is valued for its adaptability to a range of conditions and its drought tolerance once established.

This fall-flowering shrub, which can reach heights of about 12 ft and comparable width, is a sight to behold. Its simple alternate, thick, egg-shaped to rhombic leaves, mostly with coarse teeth, and the uppermost leaves entire, add to its unique beauty. The flowers, born in numerous small, compact heads in large leafy terminal inflorescences, are a snowy-white, almost cotton-like spectacle.
