Asclepias tuberosa, commonly known as butterfly weed, is a milkweed species native to eastern and southwestern North America. It is a perennial native to sandy uplands in north Florida and is crucial as a larval host for monarch, queen, and soldier butterflies. It blooms from spring through fall, attracting pollinators, including hummingbirds and bees.

The leaves are spirally arranged and grow up to 4 3/4 inches long and 1 1/4 inches broad. The upper axils are wide umbels of orange, yellow, or red flowers. Each flower has five petals and five sepals. The fruit pod can grow up to 6 inches long and contains many long-haired seeds.
