Carya aquatica (Water Hickory)

Carya aquatica, commonly known as Water Hickory or Bitter Pecan, is a significant species in the Juglandaceae family that thrives in the warm, humid climate of North Florida’s Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains​​.

It is a large tree that grows well in the wet soils of stream banks and floodplains. It becomes a dominant plant in backwater areas near streams and rivers and can be found from the Panhandle south to about Palm Beach County in Florida​​​​.
